Tongwynlais Temperance Band Set to Compete at 80th anniversary Welsh Regional Brass Band Championships

The Tongwynlais Temperance Band, as one of Wales’ premier brass bands, is gearing up to compete at the Championship section of the Welsh Regional Brass Band Competition on Sunday 16th March at Swansea’s iconic Brangwyn Hall.

The competition, which serves as a qualifier for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, will see Wales’ finest brass bands come together to showcase their musical excellence.

Tongwynlais Temperance Band will be performing under the expert direction of Musical Director Owen Farr, aiming once again to secure a top position in this highly anticipated event. The band is one of over 470 bands challenging to qualify for a place in the National Finals held in the autumn. Last year the band represented Wales at the Championship Sections finals held at the Royal Albert Hall.

“We are excited to take part in this year’s Welsh Regional Championships in what is the 80th anniversary year since the formation of the competition,” said Paul Baxter, Band Manager of Tongwynlais Temperance Band.

“The band has been working incredibly hard over the recent weeks to prepare for its tour of Japan, a key concert to celebrate Saint David’s day at Llandaff Cathedral, and we are now eager to perform and demonstrate our musicianship at this important contest.”

The competition, featuring bands from Wales competing across two days and five graded sections,  will take place at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea  on Saturday 15th and 16th of March. Tongwynlais Temperance Band has a strong history in the contest and hopes to continue its tradition of excellence with a standout performance, and has competed in the Championship Section at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain nine times since 2010.

Supporters and brass band enthusiasts are encouraged to attend and cheer on the band as they take the stage against some of the best ensembles in Wales. Updates and results will be shared on the band’s website and social media channels during and following the event.
